Leadership within Sacred Connections
The organization of Sacred Connections, and its mode of leadership, has changed several time since it was founded in 1998. We describe here the current mode.
Leading One-Day Events
Each one-day event has its own "Event Team", formed just to produce and lead that event. These event teams are drawn from the combined pool of a couple dozen leaders which we call the "Leadership Team". We generally expect an Event Team to involve at least three members of the Leadership Team in order to reserve a date for a Sacred Connections event. Each Event Team has a coordinator from within the team.
The normal process of creating a one-day event goes something like this:
- Some leaders get an idea or theme for a one-day event and form a prototype Event Team.
- They pick a coordinator & registrar, fill out the "Offering an Event" form (below) and send it to the One-day Event Coordinating and Support Team.
- The Coordinating and Support Team checks for conflicts and availability, and any other considerations needed to coordinate among independent Event Teams. They negotiate dates and locations as needed.
- The Coordinating and Support Team recognizes the one-day event, with a specific date and location and with the given Event Team, and schedules it on the Sacred Connections calendar.
- Other leaders may offer their services to the Event Team, which at this stage may be well developed or may be just a seed.
- The Coordinating and Support Team announces and supports the event. (The Event Team may also produce their own announcements). Members sign up and attend. Love, merriment, growth, and wonders happen.
- After the event, the Event Team fills out a "wrap-up" report and emails it to the Coordinating and Support Team. This is needed to help us track trends, pass on problems, etc, in an environment where the other Event Teams might or might not share any of the same leaders.
One Day events can draw on a "kitty" of accumulated money from earlier events; their revenues go back into this kitty. If the kitty gets larger than needed, surpluses are donated to the Core Team, which has a bank account and tax status. This is managed by the One Day Event Treasurer under guidance from the Coordinating and Support Team. The Treasurer will issue reports to the Leadership Team.
Leading Celebrations (multi-day retreats)
Currently, Celebrations of Sacred Sexuality are produced by the ongoing Core Team, with the support of other leaders who form a larger working team for each retreat. This process is evolving and will be documented further as it settled down.
The Core Team is responsible for the assets and legal aspects of Sacred Connections, and for holding the vision. The Core Team as such is not directly responsible for producing one-day events - though members of the core teams as individuals are also part of the Leadership Team and thus may be part of particular Event Teams.
The finances for one-day events are completely separate from the Core Team's responsibilities and the Sacred Connections legal entity. Sacred Connections the legal entity will accept donations from the one-day events, but does not supervise their finances.
